Default cracked oil pan woes

As the title suggest I hit a dip and cracked my oil pan. Drove around a little whill too, since it was not that hard I did not even get out and check it till I got home. The car's temp in both oil and water did not really go up, and because there was no warning lights I don't think I did any damage to the engine? Thoughs anything I could check? Also does anyone know a site online where i can try to find a new oil pan. Any clues on cost and how hard it will be to do. At least I just for my bentley manual. Also I am not intrested in getting a skid plate since I did not hit it that hard and I don't want htis to happen again. Thx.

Did you loose all your oil? Also, if it were me, I would drain ur oil(if it already isnt) and take the pan up and take it to any welding shop. And ask if they will run a weld down, maybe 2 wide just to make sure u get it fully. They will prolly do it on the spot and will be alot cheaper, prolly a 20dollar fix. Just my 02.

can you weld an allum. oil pan like that? Also the oil did not really start pooring out till i stoped the engine (based on the drip spots and how much oil still had to drain. All the oil is now out of the car....or just a very small bit in the oilpan. But it really started pooring after the enging got shut down.

I did the same thing in one of my cars...my oil light did not come on initially, but eventually it did. It was not a hard hit so I didn't think much of it till the oil light came on...I stopped and shut down the engine..and oil just poured out....

Had the car towed to my garage. My mechanic looked for a used oil pan...It was aluminum as well...I can't remeber if there are weld issues with alu...but I think you should be able to weld??

I think I got luck, cause my engine seemed to run fine afterwards...if any damage was done, it was not noticiable...although it may only be evident down the road a bit, I'm sure it had to have some effect in increased wear.

good luck.

as for takin it off and puttin it back on is a whole nother story in itself bc u will have to raise the engine atleast 6 inches to remove it. a new pan is gonna cost around 100 bux shipped from car-parts.com

are you sure? I looked down there and check in the bently and it looks like you will just have to remove the bolts surrounding it.....the lower part is the only part damaged it looked like. I figured I would just have to throw the car on jack stands.

you don't have to raise then engine if you are only removing the lower pan, but it can be a PITA.
There are all kinds of bolts including a couple up behind the flywheel.
You have to rotate the crank until two holes in the flywheel line up with the bolts so you can get at them.
You'll need a long 5mm hex tool.

Default Cracked my oil pan too!

**** **** ****!

I was going up a hill slightly too fast and the hill leveled out and I hit the road hard!

I looked underneath today and my oil pan is cracked!

I have a 2001 A4 2.8L

I've found some oil pans already, the part number is: 078 103 604 AA right?

However, i've been unable to find any oil pan gaskets, where can I find this?

Besides parts, how much will labor cost me?

This sucks!
