yeah thats the funny thing, in all of the DIY reports i have looked at none of them mention taking it off (even on the 12v forum). yet when im looking at where the timing belt runs it seems impossible to take it off unless the fan clutch is taken off. im stumbed here, and just a tad frustrated. ANY 2.8's PLEEEEAASSEEE HELP ME!!

I think there's a small hole on the back side that will allow you to stick an allen key into the clutch so that it will prevent it from rotating while you unscrew the clutch with a socket from the back.

Well, hang in there, someone that has done this on their 2.8 will chime in.

I couldn't find a good writeup to see if this is necessary or not.

Its hard to tell from the pictures, but you may be able to get it off without removing the fan clutch, once you have removed the old tensioner. It "looks" possible, but I would wait for someone that has done it to chime in.

Good luck. Post the result once you get it done, for the other 2.8-ers out there.

I fairly sure that you will have to remove the fan clutch.

there are a couple holes in the pulley itself that i can see 2 bolts from. i can get an allen key in there, but there and loosen them but removal is impossible due to the pulley being in the way. i checked to see if there is anything on the back of those, but they seem to go very deep, even through the water pump. im pretty sure there is no way to take them out that way.
