Crap, my first problem
I bought a 2001audi a4 1.8t 5MT about a week ago. I just got back from driving around (nothing crazy). I park it in my garage and go inside. I go out to the garage again to find a gas stench in the air, so i open the garage door. Next i looked under the car and saw that something was dripping about a drip every7-10 sec. The drip is happening near the "woven" part of the downpipe. Then i started it up to back it into my driveway, and about 10 sec after i started it there started to be a muffledgurgling noise. I immiediatly turned off the car.
PLEASE HELP!, Mike

If its a gas stench check all the gas lines for holes and cracks, and the "woven" part is called a flex pipe. I dont know how the gas lines run in a 1.8T so check online for a diagram or maybe someone will post after me and tell you where or something i dont know, but check them because if your smelling fuel and your sure that was dripping then either something is loose and your losing fuel somewhere. Check everything that consist with the fuel system since its coming from the front, check fuel regulator and hoses and also clamps and make sure there all tighten. And when i say hoses dont do a "oh i dont see nothing" kinda check, i mean get down and dirty and feel all around them hoses and absolutely check for cracks
Good LUCK!
or you can just take it back to the dealership and tell them ***** to fix it

was that something gas or what? sounds like u have a cratched downpipe and something is wrong with ur cat. i have no idea why u would be leaking gas though. how many miles do u have on the car?
Also i saw that it was in reverse from when i was going to back out, so i just went out there to put it in neutral (dont know why). When i pressed in the clutch it felt like there was a lot of resistance, so i stopped. Another thing, im not 100% sure it is gas so any kind of fluid could be possible.
could be coolent? i know on my v6 a coolent hose runs directly over and above my downpipe. And the resistance did you feel this before when you baught it? or is it just now feeling stiff? Mines has always been stiff thats why im asking normaly i hear "my clutch pedal seems to soft" instead of resistance.
But for the leak, i say just jack up the car if you can and place a jack stand there for saftey, use stoppers and put the e-brake up and put the car in 1st to insure the car wont roll and go under the car and view where the leak is coming from and visualy feel and look at where its coming from, and if you can take a picture...that will help alot

I know the clutch is pretty stiff normally, but when i tried it out it seemed stiffer. Again, was making a wierd muffled gurgling noise would coolant make it do that? Unfortuenatly i dont have jacks, so i might have to tow it... [&o]
You dont have friends with jacks or anything like that? And where is the gurgling noise coming from? and coolant can gurgle, mine did when i use to use water and when i was out of coolant ( bad times )
but anyways pop the hood and start the car and see if you can hear it from in there, and also see if you have any coolant in the expansion tank I would think if you were leaking fuel though, the car would idle weirdly depending on how big the leak is. Also if you cant jack the car up are you small enough to atleast scoot up under there where the leak is? of course with e-brake up, and car in 1st with stoppers on the rear wheels or front dont want you getting ran over...
Also goto the puddle where the leak was, put your finger in it, and smell it or look at it closely to determain if its coolent, fuel, tranny fluid, oil or whatever...
