both very reputable names...... main thing i would research is what one does over the other and cost of those extras over the other..... if they are the same product and price points, it is the flip of a coin

yeah it will cost you 100/hr if you tune it your self. if you want someone else to dino tune it it's gonna cost more than that
With Chris Tapp its $160/hr CDN so thats about $1.25/hr US

But i would expect a sh!tload for a DINO tune

har har har. nice try, but our dollar is worth more than yours now. so it's about 165-170 an hour for you americanos.

yeah im deciding between the AVC-R and the E-01. both seem like they will work great, but i like the looks of the AVC-R better. my question is, am i paying for extra stuff i dont need? all the data logging stuff is cool but i plan on getting a vagcom in the future so would having a vagcom and a profec b do the same as the AVC-R? also would i be able to do everything myself with the avc-r? or would i need someone else to show me what to do?

You dont need a E-01, just the profec B. They arent to expensive and work great. Me being fwd need one so i can run lower boost in 1st and 2nd gear and high in 3rd+. Just go with which you like better and function the way you want. You cant go wrong with either of them.
