Default dead clutch

The clutch in my 96 A4 has died. Except that, instead of being stuck in gear, its stuck out of gear, i.e. even if I let the clutch out all the way the car doesn't stall. So is this how clutches work on A4's? or is there something else wrong?

I am assuming its a V6 2.8L QUattro

**The clutch goes out usally after 100,000 Miles

If you cannot put the car in a "gear" no matter what you do... & you smell something funny from under hood. It's your Clutch.

It's like theres a Brick in front of your shifter stopping you from getting into a gear right?

Sachs OEM Clutch 200 on EBAY
FLywheel for about 80 bucks at junkyard

Labor about 500

Not a Quatro, but yeah. The clutch goes in and out fine, it just doesn't go into gear, but the rest of the symptons are true. And the shifter is working fine as well. The car's over at the AAMCO now, I'll be calling them up in the morning.
