Did anyone ever change transmission fluid??
1996 A4 2.8q
Did anyone ever change the transmissionfluid??? I replaced the AC compressor and had to move the coolers/bumper. There was some fluid lost in the process. According to Bernadi Audi, Natick,MA you should only use audi brand $14.00/quart. Does anyone have a reference for any other (cheaper)brand? Also... So far I found some procedures for the correct temp while refilling the ATF, did anyone ever do it him/ her self???
Any inoput greatly appreciated!!

RE: Did anyone ever change transmission fluid??
Are you talking about Auto tranny fluid?
From what I understand, you need a VAG to control the ATF temperature during refilling.
Secondly, you should change the oil in the front differential, the center differential, and the rear differential, too. Each of them has its own drain plug.

SlimChriz,
- are you going with audi fluids from the dealership? According to autozone you can use dexron III 75W90. True?
- How big of an issue do you think is the correct temperature??? Browsing the web i read that if you run it for 15 min after beeing entireliy cold, it will have approx. the right temperature.
- are you going to change the screen for the tranny?
- i'm assuming 2 7/10 quarts for the tranny. Is that correct?
- Did you change your fluids before ,yourself?
Any input??
Thanks,
mike

RE: Did anyone ever change transmission fluid??
If this is auto tranny fluid - get the correct stuff. Get Audi OEM or Pentosin.
You will need a fluid pump to get it in there also, since it is added from underneath the car.

Brrman,
just got the Audi fluids. Have you changed it yourself??
I'm just a little hasitant, because i don't know if I will get it to the right Temp/level. Do you think it will be that crucial if it will be a little off?? I do not have the Bentley Manual. What procedure are they calling for????
