difference between regular speakers and component speakers?
get components if you are using the speakers for FULL sound... but get regular if they are being used for either hi or low frequency. You can balance your car that way..... for instance for my reardecks i got regulars and used them on low frequency so that they acted as subs for a while. Components are a bit better, but in our small cars it doesnt make much of a difference.
I much prefer components in the front because the big speaker will provide more mids, and the tweeter more highs. It's good to limit the frequencies that each speaker has to provide so each one plays as cleanly as possible. Kind of like why you use a crossover on a subwoofer instead of letting everything go through there. If you did that, it would all sound like a garbled mess. I have some Kenwood components in front on my car and they sound great. The only drawback is that often times you will need an amp specifically for the components because they tend to draw a decent amount of power, and powering them from the deck usually doesn't cut it.

One of the biggest advantages of components is that it better seperates frequencies and better sets the front stage in the car. The crossover they come with is better at sending the correct frequencies to the tweeter and the midrange. Yes, it's for better sound, but it's also for more accurate reproduction of your music to better emulate actually being there and seeing the artist perform.
