You need to do this using something called a VAG COM (software that runs on a PC and connects to the computers built into your car though a speical cable). Do a search on "VAG COM Locator" to find somebody with one in your area or post a query on the appropriate regional forum to find somebody near you who can help you out.

I have something to point out here. Most BOSE car audio systems run on 2 ohms. Speakers/headunit and amp are all designed to work together. Most aftermarket systems and non-BOSE systems vary between 4-6-8 ohms. In definition an ohm is a resistance that produces a potential difference of one volt when a current of one ampere is flowing through it. Using this headunit with non-BOSE speakers might decay the audio quality and ultimately destroy your speakers. (worst case scenario) I would try to get a OEM amp and speakers. You can add an amp to the existing BOSE system by using a bypass filter (car toys) which helps match the electrical impedance between the 2 devices and you can then use aftermarket amps and subs etc. I am not sure if there are ways to convert from the headunit. I would call your local audio shop and ask some questions. I have the symphony I with the amp and sub(aftermarket) tuned way down and it sounds pretty good. Just my .02. Let us know what you find out.

The ONLY difference between the OEM Bose and non-Bose head units (Symphony I or II) is the VAG COM coding. The head unit itself is identical. Change the VAG COM coding and your problems should go away.

Unlikely that the local audio shop whould understand this given the Audi-specific nature of the question.
