Default Dirty Oil/Dirty Engine - How to clean it out?

Does anyone know any good tricks to clean out your engine?? I have been told to run full synthitic oil for 500 miles, drain it, and do it again, and again. Then go back to my regular oil after 3 times and I should have most of the dirt and gunk out. What have any of you all done??

You should always use fully synthetic oil, especially with the 1.8t to reduce/eliminate sludging. Frequent oil changes like you are describing are the most natural way I guess, but still may not get out what engine flush treatments can. You can try running a half bottle of seafoam or auto rx in the crank case for about 75 miles, then change the oil. Dont use a full can or drive longer than 100 miles with that stuff in the crank case or it will thin your oil out too much and cause damage to the piston walls (scoring) and reduce your compression etc.

This, like most questions you could ever think of have been covered many times. Always try using the search for your answer before posting. Hell I can spend hours and hours just browsing the search and never get bored or feel at a loss for info.

on other cars i have run transmission fluid for approx 5 min. drain and put in fresh oil. the tranny fluid is a detergent. not sure if you would try it on your audi though. i have never done it on mine either. just a thought though.

seafoam...

My 12v has been run historically with Castrol GTX, I switched to a full synthetic when I bought it at 91k.
