I just called Audi and they are going to clean my engine and oil out for free. Audi has an extended 8 year warranty on the 1.8t motors from 97 to 04 that covers any problems related to oil sludge. This is totally sweet!! I hope everyone with the 1.8t knows about this extended warranty, cause it is gonna save be alot of time and a little cash!

 

So you are going to take in yout 1.8t and they are cleaning it for free eh? Any stipulations on this? If not i'm taking in my 99 for SURE.

Did you call the dealer or a central number?

 

So I just thought of another question. I keep hearing about sludge and did a search on it. How do I tell if I have a sludge problem? I would assume driving a 99 b5 with 91k miles on it I DO, but how do I really know?

The stipulations are that you have to have follow all of the Audi maintanaince guidlines .. like oil changes, and you have to have them documented ... no papewrwork .... no warranty .... do a search here and THere is a cop0y of the letter that Audi sent out about the extended warranty.

I spoke to my local dealer about the oil sludge warranty and they knew all about it .... they said if my oil was unusually dirty then the warranty will cover the work to clean the engine.

I figured out I had sludge by looking at my oil dipstick 500 miles after I had it changed .. and it was already blackened .... and I looked under my oil cap and there is black shi^ on it. If you oil gets dirty fast .... you probably have sludge.
