DIY - Chrome/Polished Intercooler Pipes!
DIY - Chrome/Polished Intercooler Pipes. So I decided to do this DIY because I will be doing a DIY fmic. However, I didn’t like the idea of having to pay lots of $ for intercooler pipe or get cheap pep-boys exhaust pipe and painting it black. So it was lots of money and look good, or really cheap and look cheap… Well I’ve got look really good for cheap, SUPER cheap!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
1) Cheap pep-boys exhaust pipe (a 90degree bend is like $5)
2) A bag of 0000 fine steel wool (home depot a bags like $3)
3) Can of clear coat spray (Walmart, H-Depot, maybe $4) Yup that’s it!

STEPS: 1) All you are going to do is take a piece of steel wool and start to polish the pipe. It does take some time. In the picture that side of the pipe took me about 5-10mins to get to that shine. Also its not a bad idea to grab a fresh piece of wool every now and then so it still has some grit to it. Or just rip the piece you’re using apart. When you first start put some muscle into it, then as it starts to shine you can let up. (no need to do the whole pipe, just what will be seen in the front)

2) Before you spray get a clean dry rag and just wipe the pipe all down to get any of the oils from your hands and whatever off it.
3) Clear coat. I only did one medium coat, I didn’t wanna do too light cause I felt the medium made it blend better. This might take away a little shine to your pipe, but it helps to protect it from rust and rocks putting nicks and stuff in it.
Here is the finished product and that’s about all there is to it.. Cheap, simple and you don’t have to wait for the parts to come in the mail.

I also wanted to add I didn't spend a whole lot of time on this beause Its going behind a stock bumpers so imperfections are going to be hard to notice.. This could have come out better i'm sure with more time put in if you have an S4 bumper or something..
dosnt really matter what kind of pipe you use for your interecooler a shiny metal pipe is just as good as anyother shiny meatl pie.
Anyways, thats a good idea i might have to do that when i get my fmic

yea the pipe doesnt make a huge difference, i used exhaust piping for mine, granted I used manderal bent stuff not crush bent but its not that big of a deal... and second it looks good man, but with mine all shiney like that it was just another like rice magnet they all wanted to race me lol and i got tired of it so i painted mine flat black to hide the pipes
just an idea i had andi figured i'd take the time to share it.. Sorry if you don't like my crappy pipe thats not just for show.. And i totally respect the idea of painting it black so people don't try to race I never even thought of that. If you can use the info awesome If you can't or don't like it thats fine too.. But don't flame me for sharing an idea. Its not a bad idea, its just personal pref.
