Do all AUDI'S come standard with tractions control??

Yes and it will switch to 60/40 when it starts losing traction. A chip can't change it, you would need a new center diff.

this still doesnt answer the question... how do u disable it,... is fuse 42 still the same on a 97??? will it harm the car? will my abs stop working?

from what has been said, if you have the ESR light in your dash that blinks when you lose control you must have the ESR button near the fog light buttons. Pressing it will disable it hence turning the light on.

No button = no ESR it seems.

i have 2001.5 a4 tip 1.8t and i see there is a esp light on the speedometer it turns on with all the others like check engine, batter etc, when the ignation is turned half way w/o start, but when i floor the gas in the snow the car just starts to spinout and there is no button for esp or trackcontrol what the heck is that all about?

My 03' has a button on the center console next to the credit card tray that says ESP on it. Not sure about the B5's, but the B6's come with it, from what I understand. At least mine did. When I press it to disable the ESP, the icon that lights up on the dash looks like this:

A "!" symbol with a triangle around it, and outside of the yellow traingle is a round counter-clockwise arrow... all in yellow

My '04 also has the button in the upper-left center console. I have never pushed it before, so guess what I'm going to do next time I drive?

Sp33d03, you don't have ESP. You have traction control.

Ihave a 2001 quartto and somone stole the radio out of the car before i got my car and that whole assemably was missing (fog light, rear fog light and esp buttons) i have replaced the fog button but was unsure if i need a blank or the actall button and my local deal is no help is there a web site or any way to tell is my car need the blank or the esp button?

If a yellow triangle is on, it is turned off. If not,
slide around in a slippery parking lot. If individual
brakes are applied to stop under and over-steer,
you have ESP.

i have tried to brake it loose on the ice and it would start to but then jerk bac i do have the esp light on the dash when i start up
