I've never heard the OEM Bose system... I've just used the speakers with my 450/4 and Alpine CDA-7998.
If I could go back in time, I'd just have hidden a small 10" sub in the side of the trunk, bought a JL 500/5, and used something like JL's clean sweep or something from Audiocontrol to make it sound good with the OEM head unit. I'm sick of my aftermarket head unit... I want my car to look stock again.

maybe I'm just overly picky...but I think my Bose system sounds like ***** (not just mine..I've heard it in several other cars). sucks cause I really wanted it to sound good. I run a recording studio and a good reference system is paramount, but I find myself having to tweak with the EQ all the time cause it'll sound too mid rangey then too dull, then when I boost the highs it induces too much phase shift (not trying to sound like an arrogant douche here...). hate to say it, but the stock sound system in my previous car (Saturn LS) sounded better than the Audi's....

ive had bose in both my audis.. replaced it in both my audis with boston acoustics all around... sounds amazing. the bose doesnt get loud enough for me, it doesnt sound horrible but its peak output is just kinda weak for me... but than again i like to bump and hear the music.

I guess my point is that the Bose are just underpowered, and the OEM head unit isn't up to snuff.
But when I used my Alpine CDA-7998 with a JL 450/4 (and added bass via a 500/1 and 10W7), the Bose speakers were awesome. They were better than my Type X from Alpine, and when I moved to Focal Polykevlars, they weren't a whole lot better. I even ditched the Focals tweeters and put the Bose ones back in.

I added a 10' rockford fosgate sub to my stock bose concert system and it sounds great I just wish the volume on the bose could go louder.
