Do I want an Audi?
Hey guys...new here and this is my first post.
I have been considering an Audi, and I was hoping to get some feedback here. First...I am a Infiniti guy, and just sold my 04 G35. I still want something sorta sporty and fun. I've been looking at the A4's and I like them quite a bit. I drove a local 2001 1.8T 5 sp the other day and enjoyed the car. It was kinda beat up...but overall I like the feel of the car. I looked a little bit at the A6's...but I think the A4's are little bit more my style.
I was kinda wanting to stick to a 1.8T quatto, with an auto, however I found what I think is a pretty good deal on a 3.0. I was wondering what your opinions are on the differnce. Is the 3.0 still pretty fun to drive? I would assume it still runs pretty good...if not just as good? I notice the gas milage is not as good...but still decent. Is the 3.0 any more reliable? Are there anything to look for when comparing the two?
Is anyone here against the purchase of an Audi? I want some reliable and trustworthy. I've heard mixed reviews on the Audi's.
This is the car I was considering....any thoughts?

The 3.0's are pretty damn peppy.. the 1.8t's have better gas milage, and the option for more hp.. but you'd need a bigger turbo to get more than the 3.0.. And if you were to go with an auto.. might as well get the 3.0.
Go to a dealer, and drive each... Good luck.

I live in Chile South America, and have a problem in my 2003 1.8 Turbo A4 Multitronic (CVT). The transmission stop to working in a red light, and i have to pull the car to the dealer. They believe to be the gear box ECU, and as far i cand search on internet it's a comon failure in this transmissions (as the clutch). My car has 40.000 kilometers, fully maintained in the oficial dealer, and i have found no response untill now. The car has been there for one month and a half waiting for a factory courtesy... How long so i have to wait?... I don't know, but the new ECU cost USD 2.300,00.- plus hand work at dealer. I think this is a robery.
Last weekI wrote to AUDI.de they reply telling me that the Chilean Importer is going to contact me... What for? my car is attheir service and they can't do nothing...
I have found a workshop in the US that said they can fix my ECU. They are AUTOECU.com, and the rebuild cost will be about USD349 whith 3 year warranty (2 more than AUDI factory warrany). What if the fali is not the ECU and is the Clutch?
By now I'm still waiting for my dealer (also the official importer) answer about my car.
Fortunatelly I have other cars now, plus many other before and Never an unsolved problem. This is the first time, and in a soupoused to be "super car (Vosprung Durch Teknik)". What is the diference between AUDI and LADA, YUGO, or Chinesse cars??? Aha!!! THE PRICE (Maybe the others are better)
If any one knows how to get some factory answer and repair, please tell me.
To who is thinking to buying an AUDI... Beware!!! and learn from those (us) who are now in troubles for buying a car with no factory support.

With the 1.8T you'll get better gas mileage and you'll have more options if you want to make the car faster, which you probably will because as stock its kinda slow. As a strictly daily driver the 3.0 is more reliable and slightly faster, which would make it the better choice. The downsides are the gas mileage and lack of tuning options. Both are fun to drive but the 1.8T wins there because its the lighter of the two porkers and easier to "fling" around. Also, in the 3.0 you get real leather and dual power seats as well as other options not found in the 1.8T...To answer your question, yes you do want an Audi.
The only thing good about a 3.0L is the valve covers don't leak, thats about it. But im only looking at it from a tech's point of view, we hate those engines!!! They are really reliable though I'll give them that.
Love my 1.8T w/tip. Sure it could be faster but I think that goes for any car once you get used to it. Gets decent mileage, handles like it is on rails and is really nice to look at inside and out. Have not had relibility problems just small quirky typical German car stuff. Would buy another one.
The Audi factory warranty is 4yr/50k miles. So, you have about 7k to shake the car down, to see if there's anything wrong with it. From the pictures, I'd say go for it. Most importantly, it's a Quattro!
