I was at the dealership dropping off my car to get a new clutch and I asked the service guy to show me the parts so he brought me back and showed me everything which was very very cool then on the way out we passed by a car with a totally disassembled engine he said "and this is what happens when you don't get the timing belt service done" he showed me the bent valves and dented pistons, it was ugly folks. It was really cool to get to see how beautiful the inside of our beloved 1.8t's engine is but I shed a singled tear at the site because it was UGLY with all the damage. So I beg of you, FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR CAR if you're coming up on either 80k or 105k (depending on which tensioner you have) start setting aside some cash because I can't imagine how much it would cost to rebuild the engine if you don't.

If the parts are still there when I pick up my car on Thursday I'll snap some pics.

My buddy shelled out $4500 to fix his timing belt SNAFU on his 1.8t.

 

yeah, it aint cheep. Its not that chalenging to do yourself either. That is if your mechanicly inclined.

 

Did you seriously cry??? Thats pretty bad... You may have an emotional disorder.. Get that checked out asap.

It was really quite interesting I mean I knew it was bad to not have the work done but I had no idea it was THAT bad.

 

Well you still may have an emotional disorder if you got that choked up. Its just an engine ya know?

 

just ordered they ecs tuning ultimate timing belt kit and had it installed at a local shop for 500 bucks total for timimng belt $775. not think your engine may detonate at any moment... priceless

 

ouch. just get it done dont be so lazy it will just hurt you in the end
