Does anybody know which are themistakes that the company has made in every B5?
I am looking forward in buying an Audi A4 1.8 maybe 1.8T and i would like to know if there are any fabrication mistakes (like in the BWM 3 (1992)-the door pannel glue does not hold for a long time...) Please help! Any tip will be very helpfull! oh yeah! What is the most often thing that breaks down in an Audi A4 1.8 (B5)? Would you reccomend me any other A4? THANKS

You should look in the Recalls and TSBs for the year and model you are planning to purchase. Be sure to monitor your timing belt!
I would be interested to know if you end up buyinga 1.8 without the T

From what I have read here, the 2.8 is a more reliable engine. And yes look into recalls, etc. I was lucky enough to find the original dealer with all service records for my used A4 so I know what was done: timing belt, suspension, water pump etc. If you know the major weak spots have been addressed, you should be good to go. Look for 1.8vs2.8 threads and they wil tell you the pluses and minuses for each motor. As far as chassis go, I don't know if there are any major differences btween the two so search recalls. Someone else may be able to give you more particulars. Control Arms? Tie Rods?

Fabrication/engineering mistakes:
Timing belt tensioner for pre 2000 models (1.8T)
Upper control arm bushings for 96-01 models (2.8 and 1.8T)
Tie rod ends 96-01 models (2.8 and 1.8T)
Ignition control module for 97-99.5 models (1.8T)
All have revisions/updatded parts available for replacement, but not necessarily covered under warranty
There are other TSB's and recalls, but ^those are the very most common things problems.
Dont let it discourage you though, the thrill of driving one makes up for any short comings in engineering mistakes. They are very reliable if you take care of them and keep up on the routine maintnence and are aware of ^those things that might go bad.
