Default DOES boost run from the Battery?

Hi all,

Here is my question, and i am kind of a Mechanics newb so bear with me:

I have a 2002 1.8T manual A4 quattro that i chipped back in April (WoohooooOOO !), every time i change my programs back to the APR 93 octane after being stock for a while i would get 4 beeps when I start the car, meaning " low battery". I woulds NOT get those beeps when starting the car in stock mode. This would happen the first 4-5 times after changing the car to APR93 mode, then stop. I also have a GPS antitheft device that was installed to reduce my insurance cost (Mobilus, a canadian thing) which also draws on the battery.

So over the weekend my car just completely died and, started when boosted by a mechanics truck but failed to start the next time when hooked up to another random car producing only 12v (checked this by Voltmeter). Then again started when boosted by mechanics truck (assuming these guys get more than 12V). When I checked my battery it produced only 9V so i know it's dead.
Car is a the dealer getting a new battery (Hope i can get the insurance to cover this).

So here is my QUESTION:

Does the turbo use the battery power to compress air to the cylinders or power from the engine itself (as I thought before) and then why would I get more electricity requirements when chipped?

Anyone else know what could be going on? Kinda makes me worried that the chip+GPS system (which only should draw about 130-150 mAMPs) is too much electricity needs for my ride, seriously thinking about getting rid of the...

anti-theft thing lol, got to have priorities LOL

Thanks for any input

Pete

No battery power is used by the turbo.

If you are interested in learning how a turbo works, go to www.howstuffworks.com and look it up. They have really good write ups on there and everything is explained in plain english.

If you are only getting 9 volts from your battery, it's beyond dead.

i think the four beeps are letting you know that the backup battery for the alarm system is low or dead

So basically:

1. There is no reason for an increase in electrical demand when chipped ( does it change anything else excpet boost?)
thanks for the link Dafrazi

2. There is a second battery for the alarm system?
thanks Audi42005

There will be a marginal increase in electrical demand if your car is "chipped", at least due to increased fueling, and thus the fuel pump has to work a bit harder.

the only time your car uses the battery is during start up. after that the alternator takes over.

You battery is dead but I can say your alternator is a-OK. And no, chipping does not require extra battery power. However, when you do get a new batt I would monitor it a few days... perhaps you have a voltage leak somewhere.
