Default Door 3 button Remote Control

Hello, </P>

I really need help.I have and A4 1998.5 Audi non Quattro and was wondering what I can do. I purchased a 3 button remote from Audi dealer and had them try and program my car. They told me there was a fault with the car so they cannot program it. They tried without luck. Now they said they will have to strip my car down and find the fault. Does this make any sense? Is there anything I can do to try and fix this myself. I'm thinking that you cannot hook up a 3 way remote to my car. How do I know if I can. I didn't want them to do this causeI already spent a lot of money on the remote. When I bot the car I got the key that has the light in it that's all. I bought it used. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.</P>

p.s. where is the receiver for the remote located in the car. I can check if it is there.</P>

i needed a spare key for my 2000 A4. the dealer was gonna charge $154 for the remote key. Instead, i bought a key from ebay for about $15. but mine is a 2 button one. and then have the dealer re-program it for you for like 15-20 dollars.</P>

Yes by 3 way I mean unlock and lock etc. Any idea why they can't program it. </P>

You bought a key from e-bay for 15 dollars. Come on. Seriously. What did you use as your search on ebay? What's the difference bewteen the 2 and three. I'm wondering if it's any different for my 1998.5. </P>

Well, first of all you don't have a trunk actuator, so there is no way for your trunk to release. The remote probably uses different coding than your 2 button one.

The dealer is a moron if he thinks that remote will work. Go back and tell you him want the correct 2-button remote for your car - not the 3-button one.

On occasion you really can find a remote for 15 or 20 dollars.<edited><editID>brrman</editID><editDate>37972.4437384259</editDate></edited>

Thanks very much brrman. That is the reason why they can't get it to work. Ahh no trunk actuator. That sucks but oh well. Thanks again man.

The three button remote will work on a car without a trunk actuator by the way. The button just doesnt do anything. </P>
