Default Door Open Indicator on Dash Frequently on

Hi everyone,
I have a 2001 A4 (1.8L Quattro Avant) that frequently shows in the display that the drivers door is open (not locked) when in fact it is.

Openning the door and slamming it shut again (while in the drivers seat) will sometimes clear the indicator condition but at times it takes 3 or 4 door openning/closing cycles before the door open indicator light goes away.

I don't see any door switches on the outside and a search of the forum didn't help much.

Anyone else see this? Where is the switch/sensor in the door?

Thanks in advance,

there is a little switch you will need to replace on the door

i have the same issue, i have to slam the driver's door shut until the light shuts off
most of the times, by the 3rd try the light comes off

i'm sure the problem is the actual door, not the light itself
