Door Speaker Cover - $220.35?--Can that be right?
My '06 A4 Cab has a cosmetic crack in the plastic cover of the driver side door speaker.
My local dealer (Classic Audi - Orlando) says the part (NO. 8H00354198X5) is $24.35. OK, Thats reasonable. However, they said the installation for the plastic cover is $196.00 for 2 hours labor. Total: $220.35. How can that be?
Audi Customer Relations says there is no warranty coverage on that part because there is no manufacturers defect. I say either (1) The dealer's labor price is way out of line or (2) its bad engineering to require the dismantling of the door to replace a piece of plastic that should snap in. Audi refuses to comment on dealer price setting. They called the dealer and regurgitated the parts managers story of "it is made that wayto prevent a speaker rattle."
Is this a known problem? Are there other similar experiences? Is this the first of other hidden costs for me? Is this a dealer greed issue or an Audiengineering issue. Any thoughtswould be appreciated.

from what i remember, the speaker coverdoesn't just pop off. i'm pretty sure it doesn't just snap on and off, you have to take apart the door. i may be wrong though

I've replaced the window motor in one of my doors myself, it's not THAT hard to do, just be careful. Buy the part and do it yourself.
