Nope I at work and need to flip what I said. I am glad the other members found that. He is right on the 2000+ being a drive by wire...I had them fliped and sorry again. But I did think that the year was 2001.5 where the B5 turning into the B6.

haha that guy had no idea what he was talking about...96-99.5 were DBC or NDBW which means a cable connected to the gas pedal opens up the TB. On the 00+ and newer cars the TB is controlled by the ECU. And all audis from 2000+ are DBW...

All Audis 2000 and newer are throttle by wire.
NDBW= non drive by wire
DBC= Drive by cable
NDBW and DBC are the same thing. the gas pedal is physically connected to the throttle body (TB) by a cable.
DBW= Drive by wire
The gas pedal sends an electronic signal to the ECU, which controls the throttle body. The ECU can make adjustments to the position of the throttle body, whether your foot is pegged to the floor or not.

All Audi's 2000 and newer are DBW and controlled by the ECU!!
All Audi's 99.5 and older are NDBW and controlled by a throttle cable!!
As BaconBait said if the ECU and MAP sensor do not like what they see they can close the throtte electronicly and put you into limp mode. Many people prefer the pre DBW (preferably 99.5 becuse it has the looks of the 2000+ but still has DBC) cars for modding because you can piece together a kit and tuning and don't need to worry about limp mode due to high boost. But you risk overboosting because the car has no way of sensing how much boost it has
