Driver's Side Front Window

Driver's Side Front Window
I have noticed since I bought my 97 1.8TQ a month ago that the drivers side front window has gone up slower than the rest of them. It has been progressively getting worse and worse until yesterday. It seemed as if the window was leaning back a little bit (maybe off track or something). The best way I can describe it is that the side of the window towards the back rests on the frame and the front part of the window seems like its pushing up (as if only towards the front the motor was working). Anyhow, yesterday it went down and it never came up. I can hear a little bit of the motor as soon as I press the button to get it up, but it stops right away and nothing happens. I'm pretty sure the dealership is gonna charge me a ridiculous amount to get this fixed. Can anybody diagnose this problem and give me a price range on parts to fix it. I know you can't be 100% sure, but I'm just looking for some ballpark here.

RE: Driver's Side Front Window
yep this problem is notorious in our cars. the whole window mechanism needs to be replaced. its probably just a frayed wire, but you ll need to buy the whole unit. retails for about $250. its a pain to install, taking about 1.5 hours of time so... expect a shop to charge about $70-100/hr for that. best thing to do is to see if you have a friend at a shop who could hook you up or find someone willing to do it at one afterhours under the table.
