DV-- A World of Difference!
Hi,
I got my car chipped last week and then installed a 710N at lunch time today. The difference was quite noticeable as it is now alot smoother and pulls higher into the rev band. FWIW, I cut open the stock diverter and it was in perfect shape. However, I suspect the higher boost with the chip was just too much for the stock diverter to handle.

Got mine today, too. Putz delivery guy delivered it to the house next door. [:@]
Nemick, you put yours on at lunchtime? From the way these other guys talk that have done it, I thought it was like a 2 hour job (or do you get 2 hours for lunch??)

Mine STILL hasn't come. Oh well, should be here tomorrow. I heard that it is possible to take the DV apart and insert a washer in to tighten the spring and make it allow more boost. When I get my old one out, I'm going to experiment with it.
I'm thinking that the amount of difference this N710 makes will depend on how bad the old one is in comparison.

Which clip are you lot on about? Mine had two standard jubilee clips on, took me about 10mins in total.
Haven't really noticed any difference on the road, maybe feels abit better up the top end, doesn't die off as quickly, but i wanted to change it anyway incase the old one was bust.

OK, I just replaced mine. (About a 1/2 hour job on my 1997 A4) I can't really feel a difference. But, when I was test driving this and other A4s two years ago, this one pulled quite a bit more than the others. The DV I pulled out looks and feels pretty tight. It has the number 710 on it, but no "N". Is that the standard 1.8t DV?
Transverse mentioned that it can go in backwards and still be ok. (But, that sounded fishy to him. And, I agree) I was looking at how this valve works and I can see that it would work either way. BUT........ if it is put in the way mine came, the boost would help the valve open, along with vacuum. If I were to turn it around and put it in backwards, the vacuum would be the only thing to open it, with no help from the boost.
So, what I'm wondering is........ if we were to turn this around, would it allow more boost? Who wants to experiment on their car and report back to the rest of us? I doubt it would damage the car.

Yes gregp1962, the 710 is the stock DV. I explain in an earlier post on this thread what exactly the difference is between the 710 and the 710N.
I noticed most of the difference past 4000rpms. At that point I can actually feel the turbo pull a little with the new DV. Have you tried spirited driving with the new DV yet? I can also feel the car respond more thru the length of the gas pedal. Before the new DV this was pretty sluggish. Does your car sound slightly different? Mine is a touch meaner sounding.
I haven't heard of anyone getting greater boost from sticking the DV in backwards. I've read that if you stick it in backwards it makes it louder..but nothing about performance. Also, this was done with a forge valve not a 710N so their valve might work a little different. Anyone know about this?
