can you see the platinum wire when you take it out??

just wondering what to look for..

plus the only reason I think its the maf is b.c of the vag com readings...

Its Not throwing any maf codes...

I just won a APR CHIP ECU for my ride off ebay too!!! excited to finally chip... I want to resolve the maf issue first of course

I can't see the broken wire. I had P0102. If you don't have an MAF code don't change it.

did you try and clean it ???

thats what we do most of the time at the shop where i work at.
sometimes they just get dirty... you can use any type of fast evaporating alcohol based cleaner that wont leave a residue.
Brake clean does the trick.
this ususally returns the MAF to ALMOST to its OE performance.
Is the wire would be broken there would be no reading at all from the MAF Unit bacause the fact that its a hot wire maf where the ecm reads the airflow based on the ampreage drawn to maintain the wire at a certain temperature.

most of the time after claning it the performance of the maf returns to about 90%.

do not attempt to touch the platinum filament!
they are very thin and very brittle !!!!!
do not fell compeled to use compresed air to make it "dry" faster it will most likely result in a lot of swearing and replacement of the unit.
let the brake clean dry on it s own.

Also i recomend disconnecting and removing the maf from the car when cleaning.
Brake clean is highly flamable due to its fast evaporating.

As long as you follow these instructions i dont forsee any problems.
I'm a certified mechanic and my area of experise is german imports.

Also this isnt a FIX this only buys you anoather 3-6 months to buy a NEW or RM unit.

I took it apart and cleaned it with intake and throttle body cleaner spray but it didnt look dirty

and I appreciate the directions but now Im confused...maybe you can help since you do this for a living...

why is my car underperforming at boost...it spools up strong thru 3500 then it just feels like a NA engine with the turbo not really making a difference...

NO Leaks...NO codes...

the reason why I thought I had a faulty maf was becuase the vag com reading graph showed it reading...

55 at Redline...

when it should be..

around 120 to 130 range

HELP!

well..
sounds like you have a flow problem.
it could be a cloged cat due to failed or leaking bearing in the turbocharger.
was the car at anytime blowing blue or black somoke ??
and it all depends how hard you drive your car as well.
if somehow it happens to run lean and just for one run you can easily damage or melt the cat!

also it would help a bit more in the I-Dianosing mode to tell me more about your car.
im just going by things that i came across on different jobs.

Also ..
do you have a boost gauge.. if so how much are you running???

f'n cats!!

i want a just get a test pipe but I will never passs California emmisions..plus I dont want a constant cel

Well I had my turbo charger replaced by the dealership under warrenty about 1000 mi ago...so the turbo is brand spankin new...

I kept getting cels about P1137 which is bank 1 too rich and everyone told me o2 sensor pre cat...so i replaced that cleared the code and had a 2.5 in cat back custom exhaust installed ...no cel since then...

but the car continues to feel the way Ive described...

should I look into a high flow cat to put in?? if so which is the most economical??

what should I do...thanks alot brotha...your help is more than Ive gotten any where else..

happy 06!!

Todd
