Thanks for all your help. I will try to get at this thing and clean it up next weekend. Is it OK to use throttle body cleaner or similar? I heard that there is a diaphragm in the EGR that may be damaged by solvent type cleaners.

I have a 96 a4 with a egr valve insufficient flow engine light code. Is this something that can be fixed at home? Is there any tricks to replacing the egr valve?

When I had my acura, I had the same problem. I went to firestone and they make some cleaning and it cost me about $150 and problem solved.

I dont know system work the same way in audis. Go and check with Firestone if you want.
