I recently bought a 03 1.8TQM. I was wondering where I would find the engine code (AWM, AVJ, etc.). Thought that I read somewhere that there were different engines for this gen. Thanks!

 

one easy spot is on the head. Look next to the timing belt cover.

that is registered on the label which is under the carpet of the trunk or in the compartment "spare wheel". That is also registered on the label of the "maintenance manual"
On the fifth line: the first three letters are those of the type of engine. The three last letters are those of the type of gear box.

 

its actually AVJ ( only engine code for that year ) unless it been changed in the USA because of your emissions laws
