I currently own a 2001 A4 1.8T Q. it has 65K on it but the dealer told me a new engine was put in at 49K (the oil sludge problem) they did give me the paper work showing what was replaced. is there a way to tell by looking at the engine if its the 170 hp or the older 150 hp ?

 

well if you have a 2001 it is already the awm 170hp version and if they had to replace the engine they would have to put the same engine back in but if you want to check yourself take off the plastic engine cover and your engine code which would be AWM is stamped on the head

 

its illegal to put an engine thats older then the car
