Engine Problem when it's hot
hello all ,
I got a 1998 (r reg) 1.8 non turbo A4 ..
just before christmas i had the cambelt go while my wife was driving the car , so i had to have the head skimed and the valves all sorted out , also all the valve uplifters have been replaced with new ones..
now while the engine is cold , it runs perfectly , but as soon as the engine gets hot , when you rev the engine up , or just pulling away , the engine starts rattling and power dies , i've got to take my foot off the gas , and reapply very slowly and it's ok ..
this is happening all the time , but only when the engines hot ..
does anyone know what might be causing this ??????

Have you tried a throttlebody alignment? Pretty sure it's not the case but if the car is running hard a lot of the time it just needs a throttle body alignment. Do a search for it.
Otherwise..did you get the work done at a shop? If so I would be inclined to take it back to them and ask what's up. The car should run better when it's warmed up. When you say hot..how hot are we talkin? Does the temperature needle go past half way? What's your oil temperature at?

Well i've took the car back to the guy ,
and left the car with him , he's phoned up saying that the cam chain tensioner needs replacing , and just for the part i'm looking at £600 ....
Does this sound right , or is the guy trying to rip me off ????

Wait a minute. I just ran a currency converter on 600 pounds. How can the tensioner cost over a $1000 US? The part alone is only like 50 bucks in the US. Audi's don't even have "cam chains", they have timing Belts. Whoever changed the timing belt the original time, SHOULD have changed the tensioner at the same time. Anyone who works on an Audi should know that.
