Default engine smoking

after driving my one week old 1.8t with 99k miles i already have a problem with the engine. the engine will overheat after driving for about five minutes but the temp guage says its still cool. When the engine overheats white smoke comes out of the hood. There is a strong smell of burning inside and outside the car. Its been doing this for two days so far. Does anyone know whats wrong?

You have an oil leak. My brother has oil all over his engine (03 passat 1.8t)and tranny from a leaky head gasket and cam gasket. So guess what i have to do this weekend?

See where its coming from, his hits the exhuast and really stinks up the place.

Just lookatthe bottom of the vavle cover and look for oil spots. You can drive it fine, you just need to keep an eye on the oil level.

im sorry valve cover gasket. Much easier to replace. He gets smoke coming out of his engine bay and it comes in the vents. I know its oil because he has it all over the place.

Im doing it either friday or sat, ill let you know on how hard it is, looks easy. Cost at a shop my cost a $2-300.
