Smoking Engine 99 Audi A4 Help!
I have a '99 Audi A4. I've had it parked for about 6 months and just replaced the battery and got it started. It's idling inconsistantly and right above the front right tire well there's smoke eminating. I have no intention of driving it, seems to idle fine when I turned it off.
I barely drive this car and am curious as to what's wrong so I can help the dealership pinpoint the problem.
Thanks,
-Joe

Smoke could be anything from oil that dripped to exhaust leak, etc.
When you stored the car, did you put in gas stabilizer, or are you running on 6 month old gas. If the latter, put fresh gas in.
Regarding the rough idle. If the battery was out, you likely need to to a throttle adjustment. Turn the key to on without touching the gas or starting the engine. Leave it that way for five minutes, turn the car off and then on to see if that helps.
Otherwise the idle could be anything from the above mentioned stale gas, fouled spark plugs bad ignition coil, etc.
Also, you should change the oil asap.
