Today I removed my mid muffler from my A4 fwd,thinking I would get better flow and a deeper sound! WRONG this thing now sounds like crap and really driving me crazy! I not sure what to do now I am getting a real tinny sound like a 50cc dirtbike at anything over 3000rpm should I get a more free flowing rear muffler? It also seems the sounds starts where the two pipes go into one..............?????????????????????????

 

Did you weld a straight pipe in place?

 

um that was a resonator i think that you removed. change the muffler for a deeper sound.

you should increase the size of the exhaust system if you want better flow.

 

The resonator is a low restriction, and does not containg baffles, so there is no gain to be had. It just smooths the sound.

Try a magnaflow muffler or if you want to increase power replace the whole exhaust with mandrel bent tubing.

If I remember colege physics (and the laws of physicis haven't changed in the intervening 30 years), resistance of a tube is related to the third power of the radius times the length. Thus even small increases in diameter will have big decreases in resistance.

 

Is it a 1.8T?

Well it is a V6 ! What I think is happening is where the two pipes go into one ,there is resriction and it is vibrating inside the Y pipe.I think I will have to go with a bigger diameter Y pipe and a different muffler.I did get a straight pipe welded from the Y to the rear muffler,to answer the one Question.All I know is my car sounds like some cheezy Honda with a coffee can muffler on it right now .pretty sick also I removed both cats,basically its straight pipes from the engine to the muffler,I had this set up on my benz and it sounded awesome.ANY MORE SUG.? mid muffler is an expansion/resonator box and needed ( to a point ) so the construction and diameter of the pipe need reviewing if you intend to remove them otherwise you could cause back pressure or vortex as its called so engine power lose, its a frequency sound resonance problem
