I'm looking to buy a 2001 A4 with the 1.8t. I'm told it has the xeon headlights but how can I know for sure? Also it has the Tiptronic tranny. Do they all have the shifting on the steering wheel or is that an upgrade? I'm a happy A6 owner and now the wife wants one too.

 

if it has xenon's you should be able to see the ballast by the radiator, or there should be warning stickers around that area for high voltage, and not all tip's have paddles on the wheel, i'm not sure about that year but it is an option.

 

Turn on the car and look at the headlights...... if you dont know what the difference is, then you dont need xenons anyway....

 

Ballast is mounted on the underside of the lights so you won’t see them.

Easy way is turn them on and you will see them get brighter within the first few seconds.

Thanks for all the codes! I'm not sure how the xenons work in the B5's, but when you turn on the lights in the B6's, you'll see the lights go up & down a little bit... the xenons are auto-leveling. Plus they'll be brighter... you'll see a blue tint to them.

 

yea, you'll be able to tell if theyre Xenon. If not then I don't know what to say? lol
