Default Falken FK452 or Kumho Ecsta SPT

Hey all,
I'm looking at new tires, reading through some old posts andtrying to hear any thoughts from people who have run either of these tires. I'm changing wheel size and moving to 235-40-18. Currently I'm running a set of 235-35-19 Falken FK451s on my '01 1.8T and I've been happy with them for 20K miles. Any comments good or bad will be helpful. Thanks.

Carne

eh, not many people like the kumho's. very loud when they wear, and grip is subpar. Toyo T1R or General Exclaim UHP would be better choices in similar price range

Thanks for the info, I've heard lots of people say they don't like the tread life on the Kumho's.

I am looking at Discount tire since they have the wheels I'm also looking at. They don't stock the Toyo or General Exclaim.

I had the t1-s by toyo and i wouldnt buy them again, cost to much and they were ok. As for kuhmos, i love them. I have ASX's and they are the best tires i have had. The grip great in all conditions, even 6" of snow with fwd. I dont have any noise and the tread life seems to be doing fine by me. My brother has that Falkens and they seem rather nice also. I personally go with ASX's, but im biased.

the T1-R's are pretty good, never had the T1-S. the grip isn't the best but their tread life is very good.

and i've only heard bad things about the SPT's. The ASX might be worth looking into

I had Kumho Ecstas (I can't remember if they were ASX or AST) on a 91 Mercedes, ofcourse I didn't have the car long enough to be able to comment on tread wear, plus it was city driving when I lived in Japan.

I had ZRi's on my car when i got it, worst tire i have ever owned... and i had FZ4's!! They sucked in the rain and if there was any snow down, your not going anywhere. I hope those are better, but since the ASX are $90/tire in 225/45/17, i wouldnt even try them.
