My dads S80 does this same thing but it does it every once in a while and its diffrent. anyone else have the same problem or know of how to fix it. Its really pissing me off. It also reminds me of a desil truck kind of liek a clunt clunt noise. please help

Have you opened up the hood and looked to see if the fans are hitting anything? Have you turned off the engine and turned the fan bladed manually to see if they are hitting anything or if a fan blade is broken?

If you turn off the airconditioning does the noise stop in a minute? If so, it is the secondary electric fan.

the small fan has two speeds and on high (comes on with ac and when sertane conditions under hood are met), you will hear the fan from even inside the car.

this is a common problem with audis if it is sounding like a deisel engine then its most likely a camshaft tensioner problem. this will run between $600 and $1000 to fix if you go to the dealership. so its not really worth it to take it in unless it seems to get louder and louder. but its usually not a big deal mine does it too and i dont have a spare 1000 laying around so mine is going to stay "deisel" for awhile.
