Fan won't go off - Stays on continuously
I noticed poor pick up/boost when mine went, plus I had a CEL. If your car is running fine and nothing seems off while driving then perhaps that's not it. I thought I'd throw it out there at least.

Is the car running OK? If it seems a little off, try the ECT sensor. Mine stayed on a lot and ran at high speed b/c the car thought the coolant temp was high. Once I got it replaced (DIY, $10), the car ran much better and the fan problem was gone. Something to consider at least.

dam dude... on my 2.8 i have this same problem, my fan is constantly on, and my car is very sluggish, bad throttle response... i just recently had it at a shop and they said the throttle body was really dirty, and they didnt catch the fan thing either. but anyways, whats the ECT sensor? electrically controlled throttle??? lol... anyways, i wonder whats going on...
ECT = engine coolant temperature.
Perhaps a real mechanic can chime in on this one but my beliefs are:
1) once the ECT can no longer read the coolant temperature accurately, it relies on "internal reference tables" so to speak to adjust items such as fuel mixture. While this is enough to allow the car to run well, it does not provide for performance like that achieved with an actual reading.
2) I originally thought the electric fans up front (behind the radiator but in front of the engine) run on "high" because the ECT is sending readings that the coolant temperature is high and needs some cooldown. I realize that sort of counteracts my previous belief above about internal reference tables. I now think the ECU assumes a high coolant temperature and makes them run like that because it assumes a better safe than sorry persepctive.
Any thoughts real mechanics?

It's either the Radiator/Auxiliary Fan Switch (8D0959481B) and or the Radiator Fan Controller/Resistor; Control Module for Auxillary Fan (8D0959501D). I replaced both and the fan do not stay on for long periods of time now, also, get the OE stuff; dont waste your time on off brand parts
Sounds like the sensor is stuck on but in reality it can be anything from short in the wiring or switch. Run an ohm meter over the sensor cold and then hot and if it reads the same its the problem.
