Ok guys, I'm putting together a FAQ type of thread. Please post a commonly asked question with the answer and I will add it to my list to be posted as a sticky thread.

For instance:

Q: What is a Vag-Com?

A: Vag-Com is a diagnostic tool used to scan your car for fault codes. A Vag-com can also be used to reprogram certain modules in the vehicle. IE: controlling windows via the remote key fob. If you plan on doing any troubleshooting yourself, a Vag-Com is essential.

What kind of oil? Whatever weight you use, use synthetic oil only. For the 1.8T use the new larger oil filter from Mann or Bosch
What kind of gas? 91+
What kind of chip? Apr or GIAC what ever one is closer

What kind of engine should I get? 1.8T for modding and 2.8 for slow and reliable
Do I need quattro? Yes
Whats wrong with my car? Get it Vag'ed tell us ur codes and we will give you a head ache
Is my turbo blown? Does it sound like a million screeming babies- Then its fine

Please no opinions in this thread. IE: 04-40 oil. That is just one of the many approved Audi oil weights.

 

Will a FMIC fit under a stock bumper? Yes but you have to cut it
Can I do a cold air intake? Yes but you will most likely heat soak so its not worth it
Can I run a MBC? Yes but you will run lean and do bad things to your motor and turbo so dont do it, just chip it

 

Q: Should I go with a 1.8t or 2.8?

A:
2.8 - Is not as moldable performance wise. Supercharger is generally the best way. Chips don’t do as much. They are also generally more reliable because of the lack of turbo equipment.

1.8t - Tons of mods chips and turbos that it can be upgraded with lots of gains. Has more issues that 2.8 in general.

A: No.....unless you get the 400 dollar carbinio for maybe 1chp.

Q: If I get a chip, do I need a new diverter valve?
A: Yes, yours will go out soon.

Q: What kind of exhaust should I get?
A: It really depends on your setup....if you have a stock turbo, then yes the borla or apr is fine....if you have a bt, then you would see the most performance gains out of a custom 3" MANDREL bent exhaust.

Q: What is a TBA?
A: Throttle Body Adjustment....done with a vagcom.

Something sounds lose under the car on bumps and turning into drive ways!
Call your dealer, give them your vin # to see if you qualify for the Control Arm recall.

My windshield washer fluid resevoir leaks!
There are 2 pumps that go into the resevoir which the casings of the pumps can deteriorate and leak. Take out the resevoir and check the 2 pump locations for leaks. Replace/fix.

Bad pixels in my dashboard info display!
$500 to replace, almost imposible to fix yourself, there is a class action suit against AOA in progress.

One of my rear fog light bulbs is blown!
NO its not! There's only 1!

Yes only if your engine is a 1.8t!
