Seen it on lots of 1.8t engines now, its a stupid design, mine was rewelded on the outside, but i had a turbo replaced on another 1.8t engine and had it welded on the inside. It doesn't appears to be welded from the factory looked like an expansion type seal, so as the heat increases the pipe will grow to fit securely.
