Default FPR and manual boost controller???

ok so im def. getting a giac chip for my A4 1.8T but i was wondering if i could just get a 4 bar FPR and a manual boost controller and boost up a little bit until i get my chip. I know the chip is ideal but my friend had a 20th aniversary gti 1.8T and he had a 4 bar with a manual boost controller and he was fine. He at one point brought it up to 28psi !!! thats way to much for me but would 15psi or so be good?

thanks for the help

i put a mbc on my ride and just increased it 2psi and it's been working great, no wastegate creep and spools a lot faster. but i was going into limp mode at 14 and 15psi. alsomy 01 a4 came stock with a 4bar fpr, so yours might too.but overall if you got the money chip it or for a cheaper option go with "split second boost control system" it's about $250 taps into your wiring harness and gives you a bar of boost with fuel and timing to boot.
