but that bolt is the swivil therefor that does absolutly nothing in being ablt to get the bolt out.

plenty of people on here have changed the alternator without removing the fan. u can do it too man. jsut sort of play with it a little. if u think changing the alternator on a 1.8 is a bitch, try a 2.8. u gotta move the whole front end of the car

haha im still workin on it the bolt iself is like 4 inchs long

you swivel the alternator not the bolt this clears the path for the bolt

ok since you dont all believe me Ill post a picture. I got it out by breaking the bracket on the alternator. Now the bolt is still in there so I cant put the new one on.

swivel means twist/turn, the alternator has to be turned to allow the bolt to be extracted

my apples being British often sends people into disarray but im thinking the alternator is still locked in position and it needs to be preyed away from the engine block to free it up so you can move it, same as an engine block has locator's to line it up

haha not really sure what you said but ya I just used a crowbar to leverage the thing away from the engine until it broke. Do you know how to remove that fan?
