Ok so today the battery of my nice new 2000 Audi A4 Avant blew up and I went to go replace it with another one I had and stupidly I just automatically hooked up the wire without lookin at the + and - and I hooked it ip backwards. Once I realized it I took it off and it was only on for about 3 seconds, and in that time the intake part of the engine bay started smoking. Now first I noticed the radio wasnt working and now my new battery doesnt charge from the alternator or something cuz It worked at first but after awhile I get a low voltage in the center screen. Also my code reader wont work. Has anyone done something this stupid or does anyone know how to fix this ****?

 

wow u really messed up there. and how did ur battery explode? that's the first time i've heard of that. first of all check ur fuses. the battery may not be charging because u might have a bad connection with the alternator or maybe ur alternator died. o ya did u start the car when u hooked the new battery on wrong? the radio isn't working because it's in safe mode. u need a security code to bring it out of safe mode.

 

I think the actual battery cracked along with the cells and it created a mess of battery acid. Not really an explosion. all fuses are good. Alternator was hooked up correctly before in gonna check that all in the morning. Could my alternator be completely fried? no I just touched the battery to it and it started smoking right away. thats what I thought is was at first but the radio wont even turn on at all.

 

ooo the same thing happened to my uncle's pathfinder. it wouldn't even start after that happened. well it worked when he jumped it and he took it to a shop and they fixed everythig for him. and alternators most of the time either work or don't. sometimes the pulley will be messed up and it'll sumtimes work. im guessing u have a bad connection somewheres. go get a charging system test at like autozone or some place free.

 

I guess i should of took the under for 1 week

Radio should be in safe mode since you undid the battery and like said above, autozone/pep boys is your friend. They can help pin point the problem and save you plenty of time and money

** Oh, and you may want to let them install the new battery Pretty sure thats a free service

 

i wasnt aware the battery cables were even long enough to put on the wrong sides

Haha very funny cincy. The thing was I put the battery in so the terminals were in the same position and just hooked them up without thinking. Dont work on you car when yourin a rush. And how can autozone or pepboys help me? And just a little bit of smoke came out.

 

battery produce hydrogen gass , hydrogen is vary flamable so when you connect battery cables to a battery try to find a diffrnt und so it dosent spark next to the battery and go boom
