gas
I'd suggest using the 93+ that's available in your neck of the woods. Usually, there is not much $ difference between 89 & 91/93. Your manual will tell you "premium unleaded". That usually means 91/93, or whatever else is out there. The best I can do in California is 91. That's what I use. As far as what kind of gas to use, I did a poll here earlier, and most people who replied use Shell. The link is below.

My god... SEARCH! 89 won't hurt your car. Anyone who says different needs to do some research on something called a knock sensor.

Also, the knock sensor used in turbo/supercharged enginesDETECTS excessive knock andtries to retard timing to *help* prevent it from continuing to occur but isn't constantly/reliably successful. If this is what you're relying on to help your car continue to usegas thats gonna cost you $10~$15 less per tank, then you're an idiot and should stick to driving Geo Metros or Cavaliers.
Heres my humble opinion
When you drink, drink good beer
When you cook, use fresh vegtables
When you drive, drive a nice car
And treat it right, always use 91 or better.
Wood-e, if its not neccesary, why does AUDI reccomend 91 or higher????
You wouldn't put other non-reccomended fluids in your car, why skimp on the gas?
Would you use dot3 brake fluid when it calls for DOT4?
Would you use normal power steering fluid instead of mineral based cause its cheaper????
Audi reccomends 91 because of slightly higher compression, use what the manufacturer reccomends.

Audi wants to cover all their asses... on an NA car it doesn't matter. I've run 89 in mine with NO problems at all, ZERO. I'm just tired of everyone not having any EVIDENCE that 89 will hurt your car. If you don't want to "chance it" thats fine. I'm more worried about ethanol having ill effects than octane.
I had my Taurus SHO running a 10.1 comp ratio and I ran 89 and 87 even though Ford "recommended" premium. Needless to say I had no problems at 147k when i sold the car. No knocks, no mechanical issues and excellent compression numbers. The Yamaha engine was just fine because of the knock sensor.
On a 1.8, I'd say, yeah you probably should run premium but 89 isn't going to instantly kill your engine.
Insulting me by saying I should drive a cavalier isn't probably the best thing to do. And uh, yeah most fuel injected cars have a knock sensor, so go research before posting, thanks.
I'm not going to go into details. Everything on this topic has been discussed before.

Cool, so there is a KS on the NA B5 2.8 ... i still wouldn't be dumb enough to rely on it to save my engine's asswhen putting in cheap gas. Nor would I recommend it to anyone.
As for you driving Cavaliers, sorry.
Buddy Buddy now?
