hi there,
im having major probs with my car, its a 1.8 20v manual with no mods and its returning 10 mpg local driving...
ive had the 02 sensor replaced, the temp sensor replaced, thermostat replaced and a full service apart from a fuel filter...
i drive slowly and calmly, changing gear at no higher then 3,000 revs.
any suggestions how i may be able to improve my gas mileage?

I only have one tank full to gauge things, since I bought the car not so long ago, but that tank was 15mpg city and this is with 90% of the driving being under 4k rpms and more than 50% of it being less than 3k rpms.
It's a 99.5 1.8TQ tiptronic. The car is stock.

The only thing that showed on VAG or OBD scanner that could have been related was a code for Evaporative Fuel Control System (gross leak), and I found a one-way check valve that only had about half of it remaining only (it was broken and missing a chunk of plastic). I just replaced it yesterday, so we'll see if that takes care of the code and helps at all with the gas mileage. I used to complain when I was getting 19mpg on my WRX, but at least I know that I was driving it more aggressively than I am driving the A4. Still, I really like the Audi.

I'm getting 19, but I drive a 2.8 Tip and lately I've been driving her pretty hard.

But you know what? I don't care. I went from driving a 1984 Dodge Ramcharger (8 - 9mph) to this, and I pay half what I used to pay for fuel.

Yea those short trip put a toll on my mpg also. I get 17 all city and most short trip in a 5mi radius.

98 2.8 avant tip

get about 22.8 average right now, doing alot of high speed highway driving 80-105

when I slow it up a little and drive like a non *******, I get about 24.5

Usually backroad driving/mixed highway I average between 22-25
nothing much more consistantly.
