Anyone still around in this forum? I have the same problem where I only get the gasoline smell when the heat or a/c is on and I am stopped. Any suggestions for checking the evap system or is this something I should take to the dealer?

 

the problem with the newer cars is they built a plastic fuel tank and fuel lines, the part they forgot was the fuel pump sender/pump on top of the fuel tank "its iron" and rusts hence the smell of fuel

my gas problem (giggles) just randomly went away. there was a solid 2 weeks where i could smell it but now I don't smell anything at all...

 

I took a quick look under the hood and found no signs of gas vapor but then again it was hard to tell because it was snowing! The gas smell only shows up on colder days, so I wonder if there is a loose fitting that leaks when it shrinks in the cold like a frightened turtle.

 

Hey I have a strong gas smell coming from the driver side of my trunk on the in side of my 2001 a4 1.8 I have looked at every thing my tank and fuel pump and filler neck are all on the right side and there is no holes or leaks help me please!!!!!

I have a similar problem with my '02 A4 3.0. Gas smell when it's full, goes away after I've used about a 1/4 tank. How did you diagnose the problem? I'm still poking around to see if I can pinpoint the issue.
