RE: gas smell
Due to federal laws, car manufacturers must insall devices to keep gas vapors from leaving the car. In the back of the car there is your gas tank and an evaporation canister and sometimes a a pump to pressurize the system generally while the car is not running. The code you will find should be a evaporation system malfunction (gross leak) the reason I am guessing a gross leak is because you smell the gas. The evap canister has carbon inside to soak up any vapors instead of emitting them into the air. Generally the canister goes bad sometimes letting off a gas smell. I would jack up the back end of the car, look for leaks form the tank itself, then check the gas lines. I am not sure where the evap canister is located at on an audi but if it is damaged or the line damage (usually chewed through by an animal) that would cause the code and the smell.
