Default gas tank and start up trouble

what's up everyone, new to the forum and I just bought my first audi. I got a great deal on it but only because it needs a few things. The dealer is replacing the windshield and fixing the gas gauge because it stays on E all the time. I have put gas in it 3 times so far and 2 of the times the pump kept clicking off every 3 dollars or so. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the guage not working or what is the problem. Also when i pull into a place that has a little curb sticking up in the driveway I hear a clunk from the front end. I have read about the control arms and was wondering if that was it. I have been on here for a few weeks now and have found out so much info. This is a great forum and thanks in advance for any info, I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.

Probably the fuel level sensor. Take off your front tires and check out your control arms. Those may be expensive.

what do i look for in the control arms and anyone else ever have any problems pumping gas?
Also when i start the car for the first time in the morning it starts fine but it will stay at 200 rpms for a quick second and then go up. It doesn't do it any other time so i'm sure something is not right.
