Default GF getting Audi..help plz

My GF is looking at 02 Audi A4's and there seem to be 3 different engines and 2 different automatic trannies (she wont do the manual :/ ) The one she looked at today was the 1.8t with the CVT tranny..can someone explain what this tranny is all about, i know that it has 6 speeds where as the other tranny has only 5...Also which engine is the best for a daily driver (least amount of problems/lowest maintenance) I told her to lean towards the 1.8t but thats jst because i want to throw a chip/intake/dp on it, lol...Any info on what to look out for on these cars would be GREATLY appreciated. Her car was stolen and she just got the settlement check from insurance and she has to get a new car by monday when the rental goes back.

6 speed tipronic is one of the trannys

and a 6 speed multitronic which is also called a CVT tranny

the difference is that you can use the tip to change the gears manualy

also the CVT tranny is a very very weak tranny and cannot support the beating from a modified 1.8T

best bet is to get the tiptronic

i thouoght it was either the 5spd tip or the 6spd multi? How can you tell the difference between the reg auto 6spd and the CVT 6spd, and her car will never be heavily modified so that doesnt matter..maybe just chip/intake or somethin

I just bought an Audi CPO '02 A4 3.0L with the 5 spd. tiptronic....I LOVE IT.....at first i was going to get the 1.8t but even tho it can be modded fairly easy, i loved the power and torque out of the V6...i figured i'd save myself from throwing money away modifying (i'm trying to break a VERY bad, expensive habit)......also, with the V6 tiptronic, the Sport mode is fun, and I typically will shift with the steering wheel controls....oh, another thing i didn't like about the 1.8t was the serious turbo lag unmodded....i will say tho i only get about 16-17 mpg, but i do all city driving....

I'd go with the Tiptronic. I like the 1.8T, lots of future mod options. One thing, she needs to be real diligent about the oil changes. I'm sure you already know that the 1.8T can have a sludging problem if you do not use synthetic and change the oil regularly. Forget about the 10K mile interval the Audi dealers recommend, she needs to change the oil every 3K if you want to avoid the sludge.

just get her the 3.0 beucase if she is going to do next to no modding the v6 is a better engine. and if you want reliability drffineatly get the v6 over the 1.8t beucase no turbo means less problems

you shift with steering wheel controls?

isnt that paddle shifting?

and there is no lag on a stock 1.8L turbo

if you think so you have never had a turbo of any size.

iv had all the way up to a 76mm presision Turbo

that thing didnt spoil tell like 4000 rpms on not on the audi though lol
