so i own a 2001 and it seem its like people arent sure about what file to get since im getting the K04 put on. They called me back the other day and it was very helpful. For the 2001 file, there is NOmore aggresive file than the K04 setup. There used to be the hammer file but the discontinued it. As well as the pc-16 file for older cars. He said the K04 file chip was updated.... improving a couple numbers by a little bit and making it more aggressive then what it was before. I also asked him about putting a 98' K04 chip on a 2001' and get it reprogrammed for the $95 and he said it wouldnt work....SHITTY! Only the chips for 97-99.5 work together and the 2000-2001.5 chips work together. So know i hve to buy this new K04 updated chip for $625.... YAH i said $625! Not F-ing cheap anymore. He also stated he recommended 380cc injectorsfor the K04 setup.

So hope that clears up a couple peoples questions on this issue, also if anyone wants to buy a GIAC K04 chip w/ ecu let me know, im selling it and it works perfect....dont have a 98' anymore as you can tell

Did you only call 1 dealer about the price though? I have 3 in IL and got different prices from each, 1 of which was almost $100 cheaper from the rest.

 

So are you a current GIAC customer? Because to get your car re-flashed is $25.

 

but wait if they dont offer the aggresive file for ur year why do u need to upgrade the injectors
i remember they have the normal K04 file and the aggresive file with the injector upgrade

 

can't you just modify the stock software for the k04. Or possible even better use limmiwinks to modify the chipped k03 software to support the k04

 

new2me- what dealers in IL you talk to? I used to live just north of chicago.....maybe the one $100 less was the wrong chip file...

A4speed- i am a current GIAC owner but dont have it on my car. I own a K04 chip for the 98" A4 and now I have a 2001. The thing that sucks is the cut off for the chip to still work is for a 99.5' A4. Meaning the chip wont work on my 2001 ecu.

Panda- its not that they dont offer an aggresive file.... The K04 chip file they have now for the 2001 model is updated and upgraded a little bit. Im not sure what and all of the mods they did but they recommend 380cc injectors with the file. Also, he said with the Awe turbo kit with the new K04 chip and injectors.... you should be about 263hp which is better than the 235hp (i believe) with the old chip
