Default Giac chip and future problems question.....

I'm planning to get a giac chip. I have met the only local dealer(phil) here and he is willing to do it for me. He did some good work(got cheaper replacements parts) and some not so good work(misdiagnosed that my MAF was a problem and replaced it and it turned out not to be)[&o] on my car. And if you guys can believe, his labor prices seem to be alot higher than the local dealership (Audis here are very rare).

Since the local dealership prices here usually seem reasonable(labor here is reasonable) and in my experience the best place for my car when there are problems. Will the dealership have problems diagnose any for VAG-COM when the chip and DV is installed? I'm afraid that I will get practically hostage by the giac dealer whenever my car has a problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.....

This is from a non turbo guy, but I am pretty sure that the dealer will have no troubles reading VAG-COM or anything else due to your chip. The DV wouldn't be a problem either. They should be able to check anything they need and may not even know you have the chip.

The only problem with a chip and your dealer is if something on the warranty gets voided due to the chip. So as long as you don't have a warranty, you should have nothing to worry about.

Thanks, I really want the chip and the dealer's been really wanting to put it in already. I wanna feel the difference everyone here has been saying about the giac. I just wanna feel secure that not many problems will come because of the chip........

the giac program is encrypted and undetectable so unless you tell the dealer you have it,they wouln't even know. and it shouldn't effect your cel codes.

Regardless of getting a chip, I think when owing an Audi-investing in vag com, or at least a code reader that can clear fault codes is a must. It pays for itself over and over, trust me. I dont know about your dealer and local shops, but, my dealer charges $95/hour for labor and about the same to hook it up to their diagnostic machine. Local shops around here that are familiar with Audi's/VW charge about $75/hour for labor. You can buy a code reader for that much, and vag com for not much more if you know how to "shop."

Thanks for your inputs, I've decided to go ahead get the chip........

onepoint8tee- thanks, I already was looking into the bentley cd, now I will look into a vag com too. Labor here is comparatively cheap, I think over here the dealer charges me around $10/hour but its the parts that really get me broke. I think with the bentley cd and the vag com and a good mechanic, I will be able to save alot on parts.

well my dealer charges 135$ an hour so smile next time you go into yours. granted i work there so i dont feel the wrath.

anyway, giac wont give you problems. you must however get all the support mods like a new dv and maybe replace all your vacuum lines to make sure your car doesnt leak.
