Yeah definately get it done. If you are mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself. Try ECS Tuning for parts.

I just replaced mine a few days ago. I did it at 52000miles on the clock. I did it because I had the time and I am going BT in about a month so I wanted to get that out of the way. I cannot turn a wrench if it saved my life and I still got through it okay, took me about a day because I recieved the wrong tensioner from ECS so I had to go to the local Audi dealer to drop $100 on the right tensioner. Also I saw my water pump was on its last leg when I got in their so I am happy I changed it. I would do it but you dont have too you could wait till 70000miles. I waited till 100000 miles on my 97A4

good luck

Yeah the1.8T is not bad at all the 2.8L is bad (but not really if you have the bar and cam puller) I like getting my parts via blauparts or even the autohaz.com(sp?) you can get a great kit cheap...but if you want to get the lighted pullys and all that jazz then ECS is your ticket

Definitly want to be safer than sorry with these parts. I changed mine out not too long ago and it wasnt a big deal. Just get in there and get a little dirty. The labor at the dealer was like $500-600 quoted. I told them to go flya kite...

$500 from the dealer is super super cheap, they quoted me $1600 and my mechanic did it for $300
