The EGR or combi valve won't really do anything to your gas mileage, nor will the vaccum line going to it.
Its not really a vaccum line, that would just throw a code, you want to find the lines that have engine vaccum, I would also clean the MAF, check the front O2 sensor with the VAG COM (the rear doesn't matter) and check your air filter.
